Our Mission

We are a nonprofit organization that seeks to support healthy grieving through education, fly fishing, and fly fishing activities.

We began as a vision of our founder, Rick Gillert, an Anglican Priest and hospice chaplain. He noticed that there was a need for alternative ways to assist in the grieving process. Traditional grief groups work fine for many, but not for everyone.

Our Vision

To become a leader in innovative grief support in the North Georgia area.

Our Values

F.I.S.H.

People First. We honor the dignity of everyone we work with.

Integrity. We have the highest standards of honesty and ethics in all of our endeavors

Stewardship. We are conscientious caretakers of all of our resources and the environment

Hope/faith. Our hope comes from our Christian faith. We are honest about our convictions, but are respectful of those who do not share our faith.

A Different Way to Grieve

Instrumental Grieving is a natural way of grieving that is more characterized by thinking and doing things.  It focusses less on emotions and more on understanding.  Instrumental grievers tend to process through physical activity.  They tend to focus more on problem solving.

Many friends and family can misunderstand this type of grieving, thinking that the griever is being busy in order to avoid the grief.  This can be the case, but not always.  We believe that fly fishing can be a healthy way to engage in instrumental grieving.  Along with targeted education, we hope to assist in a strategy of grieving that is more in line with the way that instrumental grievers process their grief.

Our Method

At Angling In Grief Support, we use an innovative combination of education, fly-fishing and fly-fishing activities to teach healthy coping during the grieving process.

Unlike peer-led groups, our group and personal support are facilitated by a professional grief coach who has over twelve years’ experience in grief work.
